Kia has added new automatic variants for the lower-spec trims of its premium MPV Carens Clavis range. With this, turbo-petrol DCT and diesel AT powertrains have now become more economical. The HTE (O) trim is now available with a 160 hp 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, priced at Rs 14.67 lakh (ex-showroom).
This has become the cheapest automatic variant of Carens Clavis. A combination of 116 HP 1.5-litre diesel engine and 6-speed torque-converter automatic has also been added to this trim, which is priced at Rs 15.82 lakh. The HTE (EX) trim has also been introduced with turbo-petrol DCT, priced at Rs 15.22 lakh. These new options make automatic transmissions easily available to budget-conscious buyers.
Details of new variants
The HTE (O) now comes with both powertrain options in the trim just above the base. Earlier this combination was limited to higher trims. The company has expanded the reach of the automatic in the mid-lower segment by adding a turbo-petrol DCT to the HTE (EX) as well. Both variants are available in 7-seater configuration.
Features of automatic pack
Kia is offering ‘Automatic Pack’ with these new automatic variants. This includes smart key with motion sensor, push-button start/stop, drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport), electronic parking brake and remote engine start. These features will provide more comfort than the manual version.

As per the updated price list (ex-showroom, India), the turbo-petrol DCT variants are as follows – HTE (O) 14.67 Lakh, HTE (EX) 15.22 Lakh, HTK+ 16.85 Lakh, HTK+ (O) 17.86 Lakh, HTX (O) 19.62 Lakh, GTX 20.00 Lakh, HTX (O) A Rs 20.00 lakh, HTX+ Rs 21.07 lakh, GTX+ Rs 21.79 lakh and X-Line Rs 21.79 lakh. In diesel AT, HTE (O) is Rs 15.82 lakh and HTK+ is Rs 17.57 lakh. Automatic is not available in some trims like HTE, HTX.
These changes make the Carens Clavis more attractive for families, especially those buyers who want an automatic transmission on a low budget. The rest of the powertrain and feature line-up of the model remains the same.
