Mahindra has released the first official teaser of the facelift version of the three-door model of its most popular off-road SUV Mahindra Thar. The company has shown the mud-stained front grille on social media with messages like An icon, now more iconic and Coming soon to a rear-view mirror near you. This teaser clearly states that the launch of the new Thar is going to happen on 22 September 2026. For the past few months, pictures of production-ready test mules were emerging, showing major changes in the front design.
Now after the release of the official teaser, the curiosity has increased further. Thar has been the symbol of off-roading in the Indian market for a long time and seeing its success, Mahindra is working on improving it further. This update is expected to further strengthen the appeal of Thar among both young buyers and adventure lovers. Let us know what was shown in the teaser and with what changes it can make its entry.
What did you see in the teaser?
The first thing visible in the teaser is the dull front grill. Mesh inserts with vertical slots are visible in it and Mahindra lettering is written on top. The pictures are very close-up, so the full form of the headlights, bumpers or the rest of the exterior is not yet known. Still, it is clear that the company has laid emphasis on further strengthening the off-road character of Thar. According to the design seen in earlier spy shots, the new Thar is expected to have circular projector LED headlights and C-shaped LED DRLs inspired by the Thar Rocks.
Front bumper and fog lamps can also be found updated. Changes in the rear will be relatively less. Things like the spare wheel and split rear opening on the tailgate will remain intact, while mild changes are possible in the tail lamp and rear bumper. The three-door body style and strong off-road profile will remain intact.
How much will the interior change?
There is a possibility of some improvement in the cabin also. Features like digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, 360-degree camera and ventilation in front seats can be added. There is also a possibility of it getting Level-2 ADS, but the company has not confirmed these yet. These upgrades are going to take the Thar closer to the Thar Rocks, especially in terms of comfort and features.
Engine and Performance
There will be no major changes in engine options. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel, 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre turbo diesel engines are expected to continue. The smaller diesel engines will continue to come with a combination of manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, while the larger engines will be available in four-wheel-drive with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Currently the price range of Thar 3-door is between Rs 10.32 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). There may be a slight price increase in the facelift version. As the launch approaches, Thar sales are also expected to increase. It is clear from the teaser that Mahindra is not going to just update Thar but also make it more iconic.
