Mahindra has patented the design of its upcoming much-awaited compact SUV Vision S in India. The Vision S was the last model of its four ‘NU_IQ’ architecture-based Vision Concepts that Mahindra showcased last year, the patent for which has now been officially registered. This new SUV will present a muscular and boxy look like a ladder-frame, but it will be built on a modern monocoque chassis.

It will be launched for excellent comfort and mileage in daily urban driving. Likely to be launched by 2027, this sub-4 meter SUV will primarily compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Renault Bridger and the upcoming sub-compact off-road style cars. The company can also market it with the name ‘Mini Scorpio N’. Let us know about its design, powertrain and performance details.

exterior design

According to the patent sketch, the stance of Mahindra Vision S is quite bold and commanding. It has an upright front facia, inverted L-shaped headlamp housing and Mahindra’s signature illuminated 6-slot grille. Bull-bar style finish on the bumper, underbody skid plate and clamshell bonnet.

The side profile has square wheel arches, body cladding, flush-door handles and flat roofline. The rear sees a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, chunky rear bumper and a connected vertical tail-lamp setup.

Interior and cabin space

The layout of the cabin looks inspired by the Thar Rocks and BE6. It will have a new two-spoke steering wheel, large floating touchscreen infotainment system and full digital driver display. Along with digital features, physical buttons for climate control and audio have also been retained. Due to the boxy profile, it will get excellent headroom, 60:40 split rear seats and adjustable headrests.

Key Features

One of the biggest attractions of this SUV includes the segment-first panoramic sunroof, which extends till the rear seat. Apart from this, features like wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, connected car technology, wireless charger and roof-mounted accessory mounts (like ladder and utility rack) will be seen.

Safety

Mahindra is known for the safety of its vehicles. There is every possibility of getting level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology in Vision S. Apart from this, 6 airbags (standard), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), 360-degree surround view camera, Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and disc brakes on all four wheels can be provided.

Powertrain and performance

The Vision S will come with both petrol and diesel engine options-

  1. Petrol: 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine – around 130 PS of power and 230 Nm of torque.
  2. Diesel: 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine – around 117 PS power and 300 Nm torque.

For transmission, the option of 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox will be available. Its diesel-automatic combination has also been seen during recent testing, which will make it very strong in this segment.

Expected price and competitors

Mahindra Vision S can be slotted between XUV 3XO and Scorpio. Its estimated ex-showroom price is expected to be between ₹ 10.50 lakh to ₹ 16.00 lakh. In the market it will mainly compete with Maruti Jimny, upcoming Renault Bridger and other lifestyle crossover models.
