Google is going to make a big change in the way it offers its Gemini AI models in different subscription plans. From October 9, free users of Gemini will get access to only the Flash-Lite model. At the same time, changes are also being made for AI Plus subscribers and they will not get access to the Pro model in future.

On the other hand, the full set of Gemini’s Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro models will be available in the AI Pro and AI Ultra plans. Along with this, Google is also bringing Deep Think feature for AI Pro users. The company is also working on new Thinking Effort options in the Gemini app.

Free users will get only Flash-Lite

Google has given information about the new model limits in an updated support document. From October 9, users without any Google AI subscription will get only the Flash-Lite model in Gemini. Flash and Pro models will be removed from the free tier.

At the same time, AI Plus users will continue to have access to Flash-Lite and Flash, but the Pro model will not be a part of this plan. The price of AI Plus is $4.99 i.e. around ₹500 per month. Google has said that affected users will be informed via email when this change will be implemented on their account.

This change is happening at a time when Google is counting the use of Gemini according to the need of the request. More complex questions, longer conversations or use of advanced models may consume more of the user’s limit.

Deep Think will be available in AI Pro

Google has also announced the launch of Deep Think feature for AI Pro subscribers. Till now this feature was limited to AI Ultra plan. Deep Think will be available in AI Pro plan priced at ₹19.99 i.e. around ₹1,900 per month.

AI Ultra users will continue to get this feature in their existing $99.99 and $199.99 plans. Deep Think uses parallel reasoning to solve more complex questions and requires Pro models.

Gemini can come with Low, Medium and High options

Google is also testing three new options for Thinking Effort in the Gemini app. These may include Low, Medium and High. With the help of these settings, users will be able to decide how much reasoning effort Gemini should use in preparing the answer to a question.

More reasoning effort can also mean spending more usage allowance. Currently, Gemini has Extended Thinking feature for complex questions.

Work on Gemini 4 Argon also

Google is also preparing to advance Gemini 4 Argon. The company is testing the model with some trusted cybersecurity professionals through the Fairwind program. After this it can be made available to paid API customers and AI Ultra subscribers.

However, Google has not yet clarified whether Argon will be included in the AI Pro plan or whether a new tier above AI Ultra will be introduced for it.
