Hyundai Motor India has officially announced the name of its upcoming new SUV as Bayon. This announcement ends the speculations that were going on based on test mules recently seen on Indian roads. The company has clearly said that more details of this new model will be shared in the coming weeks. Along with the announcement of the name Bayon, Hyundai has also completed its pre-launch campaign, which uses the tagline ‘Intelligence ON’. The name is inspired by the city of Bayonne in the Basque region of France and reflects the unique identity and dynamic spirit of the city. This model being prepared for India will be different from the Bayon available in international markets and has been developed keeping in mind the needs of Indian buyers.
Hyundai Motor India MD and CEO Tarun Garg said that Bayon is not just a new SUV but represents a new vision of intelligent and intuitive mobility. This model will fill the gap between Venue and Creta and will target buyers who want a car slightly larger and spacious than a sub-4 meter SUV. The launch is expected to happen next month.
‘ON’ camo was for Bayon
Earlier this month, test mules seen on Indian roads had white camouflage and the message ‘BRING IT ON’ prominently written on them. The camo also featured the words Innovation, Transformation, Conversation, Reflection, Expression and Evolution, with ‘ON’ repeatedly highlighted in red. Now after the announcement of the official name, it has become clear that all this was a part of the Bayon pre-launch campaign.
Name inspiration and company vision
According to Hyundai, the name Bayon is derived from the city of Bayonne in the French Basque Country. Tarun Garg said that this model is bringing a new concept of intelligent mobility and more information will be shared in the coming weeks.
What do the spy shots reveal about the design?
The spy shots reveal that the India spec Bayon has an upright stance. The roof is flat, roof rails prominent, wheel arches square and door handles conventional. At the front, the wide lighting signature is near the bonnet while the primary lights are located below. Horizontal lighting elements, upright rear windscreen and roof-mounted spoiler are seen at the rear. The cabin is expected to have features like two integrated digital displays, new steering wheel, 360-degree camera, sunroof, connected technology and AIDS.
Engine and powertrain options
Specifications have not been revealed yet, but it is likely to come mainly with a 1.5-litre petrol engine as well as a factory-fitted CNG version. Details of gearbox and variants will be clear closer to launch. Bayon is being launched to fill the gap between Venue and Creta. It is likely to be launched next month.
