If you think that car manufacturing and heavy machinery work are only for boys, then Maruti Suzuki is going to change this thinking completely. The company has taken a great initiative to bring women forward in the automotive sector, where they will not only get training but will also be given pocket money.
Maruti Suzuki has set a big target of increasing the number of girl students in the Japan-India Manufacturing Institute (JIM) located in Manesar, Haryana. At present the share of women here is around 5%, the target has been set to increase it to 30% in the next few years i.e. by the academic year 2028-29.
What are the special offers for girls?
The company has made many big announcements to make the entry of girls in 9 different trades related to the automotive sector easy and attractive.
- Complete education free: 100% tuition fees of selected eligible female students will be waived.
- Monthly Stipend: Girls will be given a stipend of Rs 3,000 per month during training. The special thing is that it will remain active even during on-the-job training.
- The tension of living is over: A special and safe hostel facility will also be prepared for women trainees.
- Better Support System: The number of women in the faculty and support staff of the institute will also be increased so that the girl students can get a good and supportive environment.
Girls are already putting up flags
This step of Maruti Suzuki is not just like that; Girls are proving themselves. This year, two female students of JIM Uncha Majra have won the title of Haryana State Topper in Manufacturing Trades. Apart from this, in four different trades, top ranks at the state level have been held by the students of this institute, in two of which they have held all the top-3 positions.
The best Japanese model of learn and earn
Japan-India Manufacturing Institute (JIM) is actually a joint initiative of the Governments of India and Japan, whose objective is to prepare skilled workers for the industry. Maruti Suzuki has opened 4 such institutes in India. In Mehsana and Gandhinagar of Gujarat and Manesar and Sonipat of Haryana. A special kind of training takes place here. That means, along with classroom studies, one gets direct practical experience of the industry.
Students get 7 months of paid industrial training every year, so that they can experience earning while learning. These institutes are recognized by NCVT i.e. National Council of Vocational Training of India and Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry of Japan.
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki clearly says that diversity is very important to bring 360-degree improvement in manufacturing skills. This initiative is a golden chance for those girls who want to make their career on the shop-floor of the automobile industry.
