Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been the family favorite tall-boy hatchback for a long time. Launched in 2019, this car is currently in its third generation and it also received some cosmetic updates in 2025. Now the company is preparing for the next big change. Recently, a test mule covered in heavy camouflage was spotted on Indian roads. This indicates that significant updates may soon come in design, features and especially powertrain.

The exterior design of the new Wagon R will retain the existing tall-boy style. It is clear from the spy shots that there will be no major change in the body shape. However, minor changes can be found in the new grille, revised bumper, updated alloy wheels, new color options and lighting. Details are not completely clear due to camouflage, but the overall look will be familiar.
Cabin, Comfort and Safety
Major changes are expected in the interior. A 9-inch unit can be found in place of the existing 7-inch touchscreen. New headrests have also been seen in the test car. Modern touch can be given in the dashboard and cabin, due to which the space and user-friendly feel will remain intact. The features list is likely to include an infotainment system upgrade, better connectivity and some premium touches. On the safety front, features like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and ESP may continue or be further strengthened.
Engine and Mileage
The biggest change will be in the engine. The existing 1.0-litre K10C (66 bhp, 82 Nm) and 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12N (89 bhp, 113 Nm) are likely to be replaced by a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-series engine. This engine is already present in Swift, Dezire and Baleno facelift. In Baleno it gives around 83 hp and 112 Nm. Power may be slightly reduced, but mileage and efficiency are expected to be better. The 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes will continue. CNG option will also remain, in which underbody tank can be found.
Low-end torque will be better in performance, which can prove convenient for city driving. Its mileage may be better than the current figures, as the Z-series focuses on engine efficiency. Overall, this update will make Wagon R more practical.
