Tata Aeris vs Honda Amaze: A new competition has started in the sub-4 meter compact sedan segment of the country. Tata Motors has recently launched Airis, which is the successor of the old Tigor. Honda Amaze is maintaining its place in the third generation with premium feel, refined engine and advanced safety features. Both the cars are almost the same length (3995 mm), but there is a lot of difference in price, engine options and feature list.

The price of Eris starts from Rs 5.29 lakh to Rs 9.74 lakh, while Amaze can be bought between Rs 7.65 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. With both petrol and factory CNG options, the Eris focuses on budget and running costs, while the Amaze emphasizes on smooth drive and brand reliability. These two cars are attracting buyers with different features for both daily family use and highway trips. Let us know about their design, engine and performance details.

Design and interior

The Tata Aeris gets a slim grille, LED headlamps and revised tail-lamp graphics inspired by the Tiago. Its stance seems a bit high and thick. The front of the Amaze is wider and sportier, it looks more premium with LED projector headlamps, DRL and clean lines. The boot space of both is almost equal. The boot space of Eris petrol is 419 liters and Amaze is 416 liters.

Talking about the cabin, the Eris adopts the Tiago-like dashboard layout, which includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats (in the top variant) and dual smartphone deck. The cabin of Amaze gives more spacious and premium feel. The beige-black dual-tone, 8-inch touchscreen, rear AC vents and superior fit-finish keep it ahead.

Features and safety

The Eris offers ventilated seats, 360-degree camera (which also works as a dashcam), wireless charger and rear AC vents. The Amaze gets wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, remote engine start and Honda Sensing ADAS (adaptive cruise, lane keep assist etc.) in the top variant.

Both are strong in safety. Airis has 6 airbags as standard on all variants, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX and higher trims get ESP, hill hold and 360 camera. Amaze also comes with 6 airbags, ESP, hill start assist and ISOFIX. Its specialty is ADAS and 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP in the top variant.

Engine and Performance

The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine of the Eris produces 86 bhp and 113 Nm, while the CNG variant produces 76 bhp/97 Nm. Both are available with 5-speed manual or AMT. The Amaze’s 1.2-litre 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine produces 89 bhp power and 110 Nm torque, which comes with a 5-speed manual or smooth CVT.

Amaze is more refined, while Eris is economical with AMT and CNG options. Overall, Eris is better for budget and CNG lovers, while Amaze is ahead for smooth drive and premium experience.
