Now the car will apply brakes on its own! Big rule may come into effect from 2030Zoom

It may be mandatory to introduce AEBS as a mandatory feature in the car from 2030.

The central government is going to take a big step to prevent road accidents and make driving safer. A proposal is being prepared to make Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEBS) mandatory in all new car models from October 2030. This system will automatically apply brakes after sensing danger. This rule may also apply to old models from October 2032.

There will be a special focus on taxis, where features like detecting driver fatigue, alerting on deviating from lane and automatic lane keeping can be made mandatory. It will be mandatory to install AEBS in new models of trucks and buses from January 2027. The government may soon issue a draft notification of these safety features. This decision will prove important in strengthening road safety.

What is AEBS and how does it work?

Sensors and cameras are installed in AEBS, the most important feature of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). These detect vehicles or obstacles ahead. If the driver does not react in time, the system automatically applies the brakes. Due to this the collision either stops or its impact is significantly reduced. Currently this system is available in some premium cars, but now it will be made mandatory in all new models.

New timeline for cars and taxis

It will be mandatory to install AEBS in new car models from October 2030. This will become mandatory from October 2032 for models that will be in production before 2030. Special attention will be given to taxis. In these, features like driver fatigue and distraction alert, emergency lane keeping system and automatic steering command can also be made mandatory. Experts say that these technologies will prove to be very helpful for drivers who drive for long hours.

There is already strictness in trucks and buses

The rules for commercial vehicles are being made stricter than before. AEBS will be mandatory in new truck and bus models from January 2027. Also, blind spot information, moving off information, driver drowsiness detection and lane departure warning system will also be necessary.

Draft notification will come soon

The government is going to release the draft notification of these rules soon. In this, the industry and users will be given adequate time for preparation. According to experts, these new features can prove to be a boon for drivers driving commercial cars. By leaving the stressful decisions to the system, driving will become safer and less tiring.
