Namibia’s first ODI against a Full Member nation since 2003 ended in a defeat set up by Jordan Hermann’s record debut outing for South Africa at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on Wednesday.
Hermann’s 150 off 126 balls was the joint highest score by a debutant in men’s ODI. His innings helped South Africa reach 348 for six after being put into bat by the host.
In reply, Namibia could only manage 162 for eight chasing a revised target of 262 due to rain with Prenelan Subrayen finishing with four wickets in his six overs.
For the hosts, no one could turn up with the bat. Opener Malan Kruger top scorer with 34 off 60 balls.
Earlier, Hermann combined power hitting with caution as he hit 17 fours and three sixes during his stay. He got support from Tony de Zorzi batting at No.3, who scored 72 off 84 balls.
Dewald Brevis and Corbin Bosch scored quickfire 33 and 39 not out respectively to get South Africa’s total close to 350.
Ruben Trumpelmann picked up four wickets for Namibia including that of Hermann, but the damage was already done.
