It will soon be easier for users listening to songs on YouTube Music to identify music created by AI. YouTube has started giving special labels for AI-made songs on its music streaming platform. This label will appear below the song name and artist information, above the music player’s controls. According to the company, this feature is gradually being rolled out for the users.
Earlier in 2024, YouTube had introduced labels for AI-generated content on its video platform. Initially, these labels appeared when the creators themselves said that they had used AI tools in making the video. However, in May this year, the company also introduced an automatic AI detection tool, which can identify content created by AI even if no information is provided by the creator.
How will AI labels work on YouTube Music?
According to the information given by YouTube, when a user plays a song created by AI, he will see a special label in the player. Clicking on it will open a pop-up, which will read, ‘Made with AI. This audio was altered or fully generated using AI.
From this message, users will know whether the audio of the song has been changed with the help of AI or has been completely created by AI. The same label will also appear in the YouTube app for the corresponding track.
How will songs made with AI be identified?
The company will identify such songs with the help of its proprietary AI detection tools. Apart from this, YouTube will also work with its music partners to flag AI generated tracks. This will include songs whose tunes or vocals have been created with the help of generative AI models.
The AI labeling rules applicable to YouTube’s video platform will be used here as well. If a song is mistakenly flagged as AI-produced, artists will be able to update its disclosure status. However, in certain cases this information may remain permanent.
Spotify has also introduced AI label
YouTube Music is not the first platform to provide labels for music made from AI. Earlier in August, Spotify started rolling out special badges to recognize AI-generated artist profiles. In its system, such profiles are given labels like ‘Likely AI Persona’ and ‘AI Persona’.
YouTube’s new feature will help users understand whether the music they are listening to is created by human creativity or AI has been used in it.
