Amidst the increasing cases of online fraud and scams, Truecaller has launched a new feature Scam Checker. The company says that this service will help users to investigate any suspicious message, link or phone number before interacting with it. Truecaller has started this service to bring its different Scam Detection tools at one place.
Scam Checker lets users check suspicious web links, look up information about a phone number, and view similar scams reported by other users. According to the company, this feature is an extension of Truecaller’s existing call identification and spam protection features.
This is how Truecaller Scam Checker will work
According to Truecaller, if a user receives any suspicious message or request related to fraud, then he can check it by visiting Scam Checker. For example, a link can be checked to find out whether it is related to any suspicious or phishing activity.
Similarly, a user can search a phone number and see what information Truecaller’s system and its community signals provide about that number.
This also includes scamfeed reports. Through this, users can search for scams reported by other people. This can help in getting more information about any message or report similar to a fraud situation.
Check phone number, link and full story
According to Truecaller, three things are often important in suspected scams – the phone number, the link and the story or context told in the message. Scam Checker provides the facility to check all three at one place. Users can also register their issues or concerns, based on which the service displays results containing relevant links, phone numbers and community reports.
Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller, said that Scam Checker brings together the company’s detection technology and community reports, so that users can investigate suspicious links, numbers or stories.
The company is further planning to add features like identification of more types of scams, deep analysis by uploading screenshots and user authentication in this service.
Currently Scam Checker is being rolled out on Android app. Its web version is available worldwide. Truecaller will expand it to more markets in the coming time and will later bring support on iOS as well.
