OpenAI has introduced a new high-end subscription plan for ChatGPT. The price of the company’s new plan has been kept at $500 per month, which is much more than the current $200 Pro plan. This plan is especially for those users who have to use tools like AI models and Codex on a large scale.
OpenAI’s DevDay 2026 event is being held in San Francisco on September 29. The company has also recently launched GPT-6 Astra, which is available in Work and Codex.
What’s included in the $500 Pro plan?
The new Pro 500 plan will provide ‘Ultrafast’ computing access for GPT-6 Astra. This feature will be available in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Especially in Codex, its speed is claimed to be much higher than normal options.
The highest usage allowance included by OpenAI will also be available in this plan. This feature can be especially useful for professional users who frequently use AI and coding tools and frequently reach the usage limit.
A price of $500 per month means expenses of $6,000 a year. For users who simultaneously subscribe to other AI services like Anthropic or Cursor, the total cost may increase further.
The $200 ChatGPT Pro plan will also change
OpenAI has also announced that it will make the $200 Pro plan available again, but with reduced usage limits. OpenAI temporarily stopped new sign-ups and upgrades of this plan on September 10. The company’s current help information also confirms this restriction.
When available again, this plan will have 10 times the usage allowance of Plus, whereas earlier it was 20 times. The limit of weekly chat messages received in GPT-6 Pro has also been reduced from 200 to 100.
OpenAI’s Codex engineering lead Thibault Sottiaux has said about the change that the new arrangement will include approximately half the amount in terms of API expenses as compared to the previous plan. Existing subscribers will also be given a one-time credit during the transition.
That is, OpenAI’s new plans have been prepared keeping in mind the increasing professional use of its AI tools, where different options are being given for users who need more computing and higher usage limits.
