Apple iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro: Are you planning to buy iPhone 17 Pro instead of iPhone 18 Pro to save some money? In India, there is a difference of around Rs 30,000 between the two on the base model. 17 Pro can be purchased for Rs 1,34,900, while the starting price of 18 Pro has been kept at Rs 1,64,900. But is this saving really beneficial?
Because 18 Pro has now become quite advanced with features like variable aperture camera, 2nm fast chip, better cooling, smart design and more storage. These are not just minor upgrades, but changes that improve both everyday use and professional work. If you are confused about which of these two would be a more profitable deal to buy, then know the 5 big differences between iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro.
variable aperture camera
For the first time, the main 48MP camera of iPhone 18 Pro has physical variable aperture. It can be adjusted in four stops from f/1.48 to f/4.0, whereas the 17 Pro had a fixed f/1.78 aperture. Small mechanical blades allow better control of light and depth of field. More light comes in in low-light and overexposure is less in bright scenes. Users can also get manual controls, which will make photography more creative and DSLR-like.
Faster chip and 2nm process
The iPhone 18 Pro has an A20 Pro chip built on TSMC’s 2nm process, while the 17 Pro’s A19 Pro ran on 3nm. It has 50 percent more memory bandwidth, a 7-core GPU that is up to 40 percent faster, and a double 16-core neural engine. This makes gaming, multitasking and on-device AI tasks more smooth and power-efficient. Along with better peak performance, there is less load on the battery.
Large Vapor Chamber and Battery
The surface of the vapor chamber in the 18 Pro is approximately three times larger than that of the 17 Pro, resulting in approximately 40 percent improvement in sustained performance. Battery capacity has also increased slightly. From 3,988 mAh it has now increased to 4,056 mAh. Video playback time has also increased to around 34-36 hours. There is less problem of phone heating during long sessions and battery life has become more reliable for everyday use.
Dynamic Island and Design Tweaks
The dynamic island is now smaller (about 35 percent less size) and can show three live activities simultaneously. The Face ID sensor is better integrated which increases the screen real estate. The design has new color options and a unified finish on the rear. Overall the phone looks a little more premium and neat.
Storage and Software
Up to 2TB of storage option is available in iPhone 18 Pro, whereas 17 Pro was limited to a maximum of 1TB. Base storage starts at 256 GB for both. On the software side, 18 Pro comes with iOS 27, which runs the latest Apple Intelligence features better. 17 Pro will also get the update, but these features will be smoother and more powerful on the new hardware. More storage and future-proof software can prove beneficial in the long run.
