If you want to increase mileage, change these 5 habits from today; Thousands will be saved every monthZoom

Increase the mileage of your car in this way.

Car Mileage Increase Tips: Amidst the ever increasing prices of petrol and diesel, we expect better mileage from our car. The fuel efficiency of a car depends not only on its engine capacity but also on how you take care of the car and drive it. Bad driving habits, not getting timely servicing and neglecting tires have a heavy impact on your pocket.

If you make small positive changes in your driving style and pay a little attention to the maintenance of the vehicle, then fuel consumption can be reduced by 20 to 30 percent. This will not only directly save your money, but will also extend the life of the engine and reduce harmful carbon emissions in the environment. Let us know some easy and very effective ways to increase the mileage of the car.

1. Good driving style

Driving at high speed and frequent sudden braking wastes the most fuel. Smooth driving does not put unnecessary pressure on the engine, which reduces fuel consumption significantly.

  • Press the accelerator lightly: Instead of driving the car suddenly, move it forward slowly.
  • Avoid unnecessary overtaking: Avoid changing lanes frequently and speeding.
  • Choose the right gear: Change gears at the right time. High gear at low speed puts load on the engine.
  • Estimate traffic in advance: Keep the speed of the vehicle under control by observing the situation ahead so that you do not have to apply brakes again and again.

2. Keep an eye on the air pressure of the tires

Underinflated tires create more friction (rolling resistance) on the road, due to which the engine has to use more power to pull the vehicle. Correct air pressure is essential for both safe driving and good mileage.

  • Check pressure once a week: Always check the air when the tires are cold.
  • Maintain PSI: Fill the car according to the chart given on the side of the door.
  • Wheel Alignment and Balancing: Get the alignment checked every 5,000 to 10,000 kilometers.
  • Nitrogen Alternatives: Nitrogen air keeps the tire temperature and pressure stable for long journeys.

3. Regular servicing and correct engine oil

Friction increases due to carbon accumulation or old oil in engine parts, which leads to wastage of fuel. Timely servicing gives the engine like new functionality.

  • Change oil on time: Add engine oil of correct grade (viscosity) as recommended by OEMs.
  • Air Filter Cleaning: A dusty air filter restricts air flow, resulting in reduced mileage.
  • Spark plug check: Dirty spark plugs in petrol cars do not allow proper combustion, keep them clean.
  • Check fuel filter: Unblocked fuel line maintains proper supply of fuel to the engine.

4. AC and weight management

Heavy luggage kept in the car and misuse of AC reduce the mileage rapidly. Every 50 kg extra weight increases fuel consumption by about 1 to 2 percent.

  • Free up boot space: Take out non-essential items, heavy tools and boxes kept in the trunk.
  • Balanced use of AC in the city: Open windows or use blower in normal weather.
  • Keep your windows closed on the highway: Above 80 km/hr, keeping windows open increases drag, it is better to run AC there.
  • Cool the car parked in the sun first: Do not turn on the AC on high immediately after driving, first remove the hot air.

5. Stop idling and keep stable speed

Leaving the car started at a red light or in a traffic jam is simply wasting fuel. Additionally, maintaining a consistent speed on the highway improves mileage.

  • Stop engine at red light: If stoppage time exceeds 30 seconds, turn off the engine.
  • Use of cruise control on the highway: Cruise control saves fuel by keeping the speed stable on empty expressways.
  • Travel at economy speed: For most cars, a speed of 60 to 80 km/h gives the highest mileage.
  • Take advantage of start-stop technology: If your car has an auto start-stop feature, keep it on.
