Maruti Suzuki India has registered strong growth in domestic passenger vehicle sales in September 2026. The company sold 1,81,838 units of domestic passenger vehicles this month, which is about 36.91 percent more than 1,32,820 units in September 2025 last year. There was also an increase of 2.75 percent in sales as compared to 1,76,971 units in August 2026. Total sales (including light commercial vehicles, supplies to other manufacturers and exports) stood at 2,36,013 units, which is 24.44 percent more than the year ago.
A spectacular growth of 62 percent was seen in the utility vehicle segment. However, despite strong sales figures, Maruti shares fell by nearly 5 percent on October 1, a reflection of widespread selling in the auto sector. Nifty Auto index was also down by about 3.7 percent. Let’s take a look at the sales breakup.
Great performance in utility vehicle
Utility vehicle sales in September stood at 78,911 units, which is 62.05 percent more than last year’s 48,695 units. This includes Brezza, Ertiga, e-Vitara, Francox, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris and XL6. Sales of passenger cars (mini, compact and midsize) stood at 91,887 units, showing an increase of 24.02 percent. Eeco Van sales increased by 10.01 percent to 11,040 units.
Condition of export and Toyota supply
Exports increased by 4.77 percent to 44,219 units. Super Carry LCV sales increased by 18.09 percent to 3,414 units. At the same time, the supply to Toyota decreased by 44.32 percent to 6,542 units, the reason for which is believed to be Glanza facelift (Baleno based).
quarterly and half yearly figures
Total sales in the July-September 2026 quarter stood at 6,96,654 units, which is 26.46 percent higher. Domestic passenger vehicle sales increased by 38.11 percent to 5,55,012 units. Total sales in the April-September period stood at 13,79,378 units, registering a growth of 27.87 percent. Domestic passenger vehicle sales crossed 10.80 lakh units.
stock market crash
Despite strong sales, Maruti shares fell more than 5 percent intraday to an intraday low of Rs 11,305 on October 1. This decline was due to widespread selling in the auto sector and soft sales figures from some companies, while Maruti’s domestic sales have increased on both year-on-year and month-on-month basis.
