Zimbabwe’s Brendan Taylor broke Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record when he took the field in the first ODI against Australia at the Harare Sports Club on Tuesday.

Wicketkeeper-batter Taylor is playing his 208th ODI, 22 years after making his debut against Sri Lanka at the same venue.

Taylor’s ‌ODI career now spans 22 years and four ‌months, overtaking Tendulkar, who retired from the 50-overs format in 2012 after playing for 22 years and three months.

Tendulkar remains the top run-scorer in the format with 18,426 in 463 appearances. Taylor has scored 6704 runs heading into the game, which includes 11 centuries and 39 fifties.

Taylor retired in 2021 and was banned for three and a half years in 2022 for ‌breaching the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Anti-Doping codes.

After the suspension, he came out of retirement in 2025 with Zimbabwe gearing up to co-host next year’s ODI ‌World Cup with South Africa and Namibia.
