Toyota is going to launch the facelift version of its premium hatchback Glanza in India on October 14. This updated model is based on Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift and will bring changes in design, engine and features on the same lines. The current Glanza is priced between Rs 6.73 lakh and Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Due to new features and mechanical updates in the facelift model, a slight premium may be seen in the price.
It is estimated that the price of new Glanza may be around Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakh. It will compete directly with Baleno, Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20 in the premium hatchback segment. Due to Toyota’s strong service network and reliability, this model will remain an attractive option for buyers. Let’s take a look at its potential design to engine-performance details.
Design and interior
The exterior is expected to get a new front grille, reworked bumpers and minor styling updates like the Baleno facelift. The headlamp unit and the boomerang shaped LED DRLs may remain almost the same, while changes are possible in the bumper at the rear as well. Toyota will differentiate the Glanza from the Baleno with its different grille pattern and badging.
The layout of the cabin will mostly remain the same as before. New upholstery, ventilated front seats and better finishing can be found. There is not going to be any major change in the dashboard design.
Features and safety
New features may include level-2 ADAS, ventilated front seats, ventilated wireless charger and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Existing options like 9-inch touchscreen, head-up display, automatic climate control, 360-degree camera and connected car features will continue.
There is little hope of a sunroof or a fully digital instrument cluster, because Baleno does not get these features. Features like 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP and hill hold are already present. Adding Level-2 ADAS will further improve safety.
Engine, Performance and Mileage
The biggest change is in the engine. In place of the old 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine, the new Z12E 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine will be available, which gives approximately 83 bhp power and 112 Nm torque. 5-speed manual and AMT options will be available in the gearbox. The CNG version may also continue, which will have around 70 bhp power and a manual gearbox.
Mileage is expected to improve. According to Baleno facelift, around 23.80 km/l is claimed in petrol manual and 24.77 km/l in AMT, whereas around 33.61 km/kg can be achieved in CNG. This is better than the old model. Performance will be adequate for city use, although a slight difference may be felt on the highway due to less power.
The new Glanza facelift will offer a good mix of features, mileage and Toyota’s reliability in the premium hatchback segment. The official price and final specifications will be known at the launch on October 14.
