Cricket South Africa’s SA20 generated USD 406 million for South Africa’s gross domestic product (GDP) during its fourth season and helped create or support 9,470 jobs, according to an Economic Impact Assessment published by the league’s organisers on Tuesday.
The league recorded a significant increase in economic activity compared to its previous edition. Direct spending climbed to USD 137 million from USD 112 million in Season 3, while SA20’s overall contribution to GDP grew by 23 per cent year-on-year. The tournament also generated USD 106 million in household income, up from USD 87 million a year earlier.

The league’s popularity among spectators continued to rise as well. Total attendance was 13 per cent higher than in the previous season, with 22 of the 34 games played across SA20’s six host cities reaching full capacity.
SA20 Commissioner Graeme Smith said the latest figures demonstrated the tournament’s growing significance to South Africa beyond the sporting arena, with Season 5 scheduled to begin on January 17, 2027.
“As we head into our fifth season, our ambition is not only to continue growing the League but also to deepen that impact across cricket, our host cities and the wider South African economy,” he said.
