Mumbai beat Chandigarh by an innings and 55 runs to win its Ranji Trophy 2026-27 campaign opener at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Mumbai bagged seven points courtesy of the innings win.
A hat-trick from Tushar Deshpande on Monday, followed by three wickets each for spinners Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian on Tuesday, powered Mumbai to a commanding win.
Chandigarh showed some resistance in the first hour of the day, with Arjun Azad scoring a half-century and Shivam Bhambri contributing 44 at No. 5. However, Mumbai continued to make inroads at regular intervals to seal the victory.
Despite the emphatic result, Mumbai was far from flawless in the field, dropping three catches. Such lapses could prove costly in tighter contests, as they did in the quarterfinal against Karnataka last season.
