For the last three years, he kept aside every Rs 10 coin he received for daily expenses. Be it grocery shopping or any other shopping, he collected the coins he got every time.
Despite opposition from family members, he did not give up his work. This savings, which started from October 2023, finally became Rs 1,23,000. He bought a new Honda Activa with these coins. How to raise ₹1.23 lakh from small savings
Ravi Joseph did not save a huge amount at one go. He kept aside only the Rs 10 coins he got during daily shopping. Speaking to NDTV, he said, “For the last three years, I kept saving a little bit for daily needs and grocery expenses. A total of Rs 1,23,000 was collected.” Initially he was thinking of doing some household work, but as the amount increased, he decided to buy a two-wheeler. He had collected 12,300 coins.
Family’s opposition, still did not stop
Many family members had forbidden him from collecting coins. There were rumors that Rs 10 coins may be discontinued or will no longer be valid. But Joseph did not give up. “The family told me not to deposit, but I continued saving, transaction by transaction,” he said. In the end his determination bore fruit.
Coins were counted for two hours in the showroom
When Joseph arrived at Jagadamba Honda Motors in Laksettipet with the coins, the staff was surprised. It took about two hours to count so many coins. He returned home with the family with the new Activa. This unique payment became a topic of discussion at the local level.
