The University of Sheffield, the U.K., invites applications for its B.Sc. Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) starting in September 2027. Scholarships are available.

Eligibility: Between 80 and 85% for students from Indian boards with Maths and Computer Science

The Sheffield University Management School, the U.K., is offering a number of scholarships worth 50% of the tuition fees for students who hold an unconditional or conditional offer and will start the MBA programme in September 2027. The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, the U.K., invites applications for its MSc Sustainability and Environmental Studies course starting in January 2027. Scholarships are available and the deadline is November 30.

Events

Birla Institute of Management Technology celebrated its 39th Foundation Day. Bharat Bhushan Tyagi of Chetna Vikas Swarajya Trust, was the chief guest. Mala Bhandari, Founder-Director, SADRAG, spoke about the importance of education, skilling, and gender equality for a better future. The programme featured institutional recognitions and activities, including the presentation of the Best Researcher Award 2025, felicitation of staff and faculty, and release of the Annual Activity Report 2025-26.

The University of Western Australia has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to set up its campus in Chennai. It will offer UG programmes such as Bachelor of Business (Business Management), Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Data Science, and Bachelor of Advanced Computer Science, and PG programmes in Master of Information Technology and MBA.

The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) has received a letter of intent from the UGC to establish a new campus in Hyderabad and welcome its first cohort in August 2027. The institute will offer pathways in Business, Computing, Engineering, and Analytics, among others. Additional programmes will be proposed to the UGC for approval in year two and beyond. 

Fortune Institute of International Business completed placements for the 2026 Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) batch with a 95% placement rate with over 250 companies including Deloitte, KPMG, and S&P Global, participating.

Smiling Tree partnered with Hindu College, University of Delhi, to mark NSS Day 2026 with panel discussions on community safety, Delhi Police-led self-defence workshops, and youth empowerment sessions focused on awareness, confidence, and social responsibility.

O.P. Jindal Global University held its 17th University Day. Chief guest N.R. Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys, spoke on Ethical Leadership, Transformative Growth and Technology: The Infosys Story and the Future of India. The JGU Research Report 2026 was also released.

MagTapp has launched an AI-powered browsing experience for students, enabling them to search, translate, work with documents, and grasp complex concepts through visual explanations in one place. The service is expanding to iOS, with a desktop version also being planned.

GSFC University’s placement cell organised the Corporate Skill Development Programme 2026 for over 1,000 final-year students of the 2027 batch. It included a preliminary assessment of quantitative aptitude, communication, and logical reasoning to identify key learning gaps.

IIIT Hyderabad, with support from the Department of Science and Technology, has launched BrainLab, a human EEG research facility to study brain processes linked to information, attention, perception and behaviour. Open to academia, startups, industry, and research groups, it will also support training through courses, workshops and summer schools.

Global Talent Square has launched its Study Abroad service to help Indian students plan overseas education and careers. It offers counselling and help with university selection and applications, test preparation, scholarships, loans, visas, and accommodation and pre-departure support.

Forum Justitia, the student club at SRM School of Law, SRMIST, hosted Muzhakkam 2.0, a Tamil debate contest aimed at sharpening critical thinking, communication, and socio-legal awareness among Law students. C. Rajendran, IRS (Retd.), former Vice Chairman of the Settlement Commission, was the chief guest.

The Indian School of Business marked its 25th anniversary by launching the ISB25 Scholars Programme, offering 250 annual scholarships across its PGP and PGP YL programmes, with tuition waivers of 100%, 50%, 30% and 25% based on merit and need. It will also set up the India Research Commons to provide researchers access to datasets, tools and AI-enabled research infrastructure

IIT Ropar’s ANNAM.AI has launched AVNI – Grow with Nature, a web and mobile app using AI and experiential learning to introduce children to agriculture, food, and Nature. Available in Hindi and English, it features audio content, daily challenges, Nature Points, a digital Nature Book, and interactive activities.

BITS School of Management celebrated its fifth anniversary, Pancham, in Mumbai. More than 600 people, including industry leaders, academicians, alumni, faculty, students, and the Deans and Directors of BITS campuses participated.

BITS Pilani has appointed Prof. Mohan Krishnamoorthy as the Director of its Amaravati campus, effective January 2027. A consortium of mySATHI Foundation, Career Launcher, FERMI and IIT Kharagpur, guided by EkStep Foundation, has opened three free youth-focused services nationwide on YellowDots, a new Talent Digital Public Infrastructure. They include Career Launcher’s exam preparation, an AI tutor from IIT Kharagpur and FERMI AI, and an IIT Kharagpur AI proficiency certificate designed as a job-ready credential.

The PGDM-BM students from Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, organised Samvaad X ScaNxt – NXT STEP: The Polycrisis Challenge as part of Samvaad 2026. This was a national case competition focused on strategic decision-making in an evolving business environment. Speakers at Samvaad 2026 included Amitayu Roy, Managing Director-AI Strategy & Transformation, Accenture Strategy; Simran Thapar, HR Leader, Carrier HVAC Business; and chief guest Ratan Shrivastava.

Birla Open Minds celebrated International Dot Day 2026. The theme, Every Dot is the Beginning, encouraged students to explore creativity and self-expression through engaging, hands-on experiences such as Dot Trees, Bubble Wrap Dot Flower Gardens, Dot Sun Paintings and Dotty Celebration Cakes.

Aditya Birla World Academy hosted The Happy Place, India’s student-led mental health festival supported by Mpower, bringing together students to explore and express different dimensions of mental health and emotional well-being through creative expression. Mansi Zaveri, Founder, Kidsstoppress, was the chief guest.The latest edition, themed The Messy Middle, brought together over 19 schools and 290 students from classes 7-12 and used formats such as Slam Poetry, AD Film Making, Stand-Up Comedy, Drama and Dance for students to express their experiences.

The Department of Management Studies at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, organised a workshop on Gender Sensitisation to promote a more inclusive, equitable and empathetic academic environment. Discussions covered gender and biological sex, unconscious bias and microaggressions, legal safeguards, and workplace diversity, equity and inclusion, to name few.

Convocations

A graduation ceremony was hosted for 151 students from the third cohort of the K-VLSI Post Graduate Diploma Programme, an semiconductor-skilling initiative of the Karnataka Government conducted by IIIT Bangalore’s Centre of Excellence for Machine Intelligence and Robotics. Manjula N., Principal Secretary, Department of IT, BT and S&T, Karnataka, was the chief guest.

K J Somaiya Institute of Management hosted a convocation for 1,244 students. Ashutosh, Founder and CEO, Kanalytics, was the chief guest. 

The fifth convocation of Somaiya Vidyavihar University saw 3,279 students receive their degrees. Vice-Admiral Atul Anand, Former Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, the chief guest.

VIT Bhopal University hosted its seventh convocation for 3,571 students. General Upendra Dwivedi, Former Chief of the Army Staff, was the chief guest. Vinod Kumar, Director, Promotion Directorate, IN-SPACe, Department of Space, was the guest of honour. 

Research 

Astronomers from the University of Warwick, the U.K., have found the first confirmed second-generation planet around a white dwarf. The study was funded by the European Research Council funding and published in Nature Astronomy.

According to Aon plc’s Campus Study Report 2026-27, India’s campus hiring market remains resilient, with employers prioritising skills, critical roles and job-readiness. Demand remains strong for graduates from MBA, CA, CS and B.Tech programmes, among others.

The Geography of Higher Education Report 2026, by Jetri and Impactica.org, found that 28% of India’s universities are concentrated in just 20 districts, leading to higher-education capacity being increasingly out of sync with emerging student demand. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand face the greatest future capacity pressures.

A Nagaland University study of 226 residents across Kohima, Dimapur, and Chümoukedima found that social norms and community expectations shape plastic-waste practices. The study, published in Environmental and Sustainability Indicators, calls for waste-management strategies rooted in trusted local institutions and community networks, beyond awareness campaigns alone.

Researchers at IIT Guwahati have developed a compact, low-energy system to treat highly polluted swine wastewater using taro plants (Colocasia esculenta) and a zig-zag flow design. A paper was published in the Journal of Environmental Management.

Research by Prof. Medha Bakhshi from IIM-Lucknow and Prof. Papiya De from NMIMS Mumbai finds that women in senior PR and corporate communications roles often have to prove their competence and leadership legitimacy. The findings were published in Public Relations Review.

An ongoing doctoral study at MIT World Peace University, Pune, by Ph.D. scholar Simran Singh, under Soma Mishra, has detected microplastics in commonly consumed freshwater fish, including Rohu and Tilapia. Singh’s work also won third prize for a poster at the National Scientist Round Table Conference (NSRTC).

A team led by Jacob Covey, associate professor at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and Department of Physics, has published a paper on how helium-3’s low mass can be converted into a quantum resource. The study was published in PRX Quantum.

Awards

Sangeeta Nath, Associate Professor, Manipal Institute of Regenerative Medicine, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru campus, won the AORP 2025–2026 Award for Outstanding Research Publication in Medical and Life Sciences by the Vision Group on Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka. She was recognised for her research in neurodegenerative disease.

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027,Lovely Professional University was placed in the 501-550 global band; Galgotias University in the 1001–1200 band; Shoolini University in the 451-500 band; Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in the 551-600 global band, and IIT Mandi in the 801–1000 band.

In the QS I-GAUGE University Ratings, FLAME University received an overall PLATINUM rating, while Galgotias University received the Platinum Subject Rating in Education.

The Center for Digital Public Goods, IIM Bangalore, conducted the national finals of the National Student Case Competition 2026. Team Champagne-Papi from IIM Bangalore’s PGP programme won in the Technology and Design track; Team Pungibunch from IIM-Bangalore’s BBA (DBE) programme won in the Policy and Regulation track, and Team Case Crackers from Dhirubhai Ambani University won in the Governance and Ecosystem track.

Eight educators from Mumbai — Kavita Gupta from MPS Ashish Talao CBSE, Chembur; Ankita Singh and Isha Solanki from Pupils Academy; Deepak Mahadev Gavde from Subhedar Ambedkar Vidyalaya; Sunita Vishwakarma from Bharat Mata Hindi School; Deepa Hati from Kurar Village Parekh Nagar No. 3; Anjali Chandrakant Zore from Motilal Nagar BMC Marathi 1, and Shilpa Madhav Gaikwad from Kurar Village BMC Marathi 3 — were recognised by Rangeet as its Teachers of the Month for August.

Three students from J.D. Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru — Gunvanti, Hunar Jain and Mithra M. — won awards at the National Jewellery Awards (NJA) 2026 in the Student of the Year category and Designer of the Year category.

B. Likitha Sree, a Computer Science and Engineering student from the 2022–2026 batch from East Point College of Engineering and Technology, received the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Gold Medal.

Professor Pankaj Raizada from Shoolini University was recognised as the Most Outstanding Researcher in the Country in Chemical Engineering at the third Faculty Research Awards at the India Research and Impact Summit 2026.

Collaborations

The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies has signed MoUs with the Motion Picture Association India, C-DIT Kerala, E-Sports Games Federation, RioWood and Warm Up Ventures to deepen industry-academia ties and strengthen the AVGC-XR ecosystem. The partnerships will support knowledge exchange, industry exposure and career opportunities, besides establishing a Kerala State Centre of Excellence for AVGC-XR in Thiruvananthapuram.

IBM has expanded its academic partnerships with IIT Bombay and IISc to advance research in agentic and sovereign AI, quantum computing, and next-generation computing systems.

Edify World School, Attapur, and St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, have signed an Academic Affiliation Agreement giving eligible applicants to SGU’s five-year MD5 programme priority consideration and a guaranteed admissions interview. Admitted students may also qualify for partial merit-based scholarships, subject to eligibility.

SWITCH Mobility Ltd. has partnered with Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur, to set up a Skill Development Centre for EV Technology. The centre will bridge industry-academia gaps and train stakeholders in advanced EV technologies and practices.

Medhavi Skills University signed an MoU with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association to promote industry-focused learning in emerging technologies. The partnership will also support curriculum integration and expert-led workshops, seminars, lectures, bootcamps, and webinars.

IIT Roorkee and India Optel Limited have partnered to advance defence research, technological innovation, capacity-building and industry-academia collaboration.
