Hyundai is going to invest ₹1.47 lakh crore in the Indian market.

Hyundai Motor Group has announced a major investment of about Rs 1.47 lakh crore ($15.5 billion) from 2026 to 2032 to make India the key center of its global strategy. This announcement came after the group’s executive chair Euisun Chung met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The objective of the investment is to increase manufacturing capacity, strengthen research and development, local supplier development and develop future mobility technology.

India is already the third largest auto market for the group and now there are plans to make it an export hub for emerging markets. At present the Group employs more than 24,000 people in India and has an annual production capacity of more than 14 lakh units.

Complete investment plan

Hyundai Motor Group will invest this amount in India during the seven years of 2026-2032. For this, a dedicated investment unit will also be created which will handle capital allocation and local partnerships. The investment will focus on manufacturing expansion, R&D, localization of parts and new mobility business.

Expanding Manufacturing Efficiency

The group will increase the production capacity of Hyundai Motor India and Kia India. Of the current capacity, Chennai plant contributes 8.24 lakh units, Pune plant contributes 1.70 lakh units and Anantapur (Kia) plant contributes 4.31 lakh units. The expansion of the Pune plant will be done in a phased manner to meet both domestic demand and exports.

Focus on R&D

About $700 million (about Rs 6,650 crore) will be spent on Indian R&D centers and vehicle testing tracks. This will accelerate the development of next generation auto technology and increase local engineering capacity.

Localization and new mobility

Domestic suppliers will be strengthened and there will also be investment in EV charging infrastructure, vehicle recycling, auto financing and mobility startups. This will give India a more important role in the group’s global network.
