As soon as the winter season arrives, most people forget to switch off the AC. But if you do not pack it properly then there may be problems in the next summer. Problems like bad smell in AC, less cooling, excessive power consumption or sudden breakdown are common problems. Therefore, before switching off the AC completely and packing, do these 3 important things.
clean the filters and coils thoroughly
During the entire summer season, dust, dirt and bacteria accumulate on the filters and coils of the AC. If these are left without cleaning, they may develop fungus and bad smell due to moisture in winter.
Next summer, as soon as you switch on the AC, dirty air will start coming out and the cooling will also reduce. First of all remove the plug of AC. Remove the filters from the indoor unit and wash them with mild soapy water. Dry it well in the sun and put it back on.
Clean the dust accumulated on the coils with a soft brush or vacuum. Also remove leaves, dust and debris from the outdoor unit. This increases the life of the AC and the performance remains good next time.
Remove moisture and water completely by running in dry mode
Water accumulation inside the AC is the biggest enemy. Moisture causes rust, bacteria growth and foul smell. Therefore, before switching off, run the AC in dry mode for 2-3 hours. This will dry up the moisture inside. Also remove the remaining water in the drain pipe and drip tray. If the pipe is blocked then clean it. Switch off the AC only after the water has completely drained out. This small step prevents odors and spoilage next summer.
Disconnect power, cover and remove remote’s battery
After cleaning, turn off the main switch or MCB of the AC and remove the plug. Due to this there is no risk of voltage fluctuation or short circuit. Cover the outdoor unit with a breathable cloth or special AC cover. Do not use plastic as it traps moisture. Remove the battery of the remote also.
Leaving the battery inside for a long time can cause leakage and damage to the remote. These three tasks don’t take much time to do, but they make the AC look like new for the next summer.
With proper care, servicing costs are also saved and the AC runs well for a long time. Therefore, this time do not be careless while switching off the AC. If you work a little hard now, you will be able to enjoy the coolness in the next summer without any tension.
