Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar became only the 10th batter to score more than 400-plus runs in a First-Class innings during a Ranji Trophy plate group match against Nagaland on Monday.
Sutar is now only the second Indian player to go past the 400-run mark in the red-ball format after Bhausahab Babasaheb Nimbalkar, who scored 443 not out in 1948 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar.
Sutar reached the milestone off 517 balls.
Brian Lara holds the record for the highest individual score in a First-Class match, having made 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham in 1994. He later became the first batter to score 400 in a Test innings, hitting 400 not out for the West Indies against England in 2004.
Hanif Mohammed fell one run short of 500 in 1959, playing for Karachi against Bahawalpur.
