Is MacBook Pro really that expensive in India?
Looking at the above chart, it seems that to buy MacBook Pro in India, one has to pay 27% to 29% more price than in America. But to understand this difference, it is necessary to separate the taxes.
The price quoted in India includes 18% GST. At the same time, the sales tax applicable according to the state is generally not included in the price given on the American website. Therefore, direct comparison of prices between the two countries does not show the complete picture.
The price of 14 inch M5 Pro model in India is ₹ 3,49,900. After removing 18% GST from this, its price comes to around ₹ 2,96,525. The American price in dollar terms is around ₹ 2,75,985. That means even after removing GST, the Indian price is higher by about ₹ 20,541.
Thus, after excluding taxes, the difference in price of the starting model comes down to about 7.4%. However, local sales taxes and currency rates in the US may alter the actual payment.
