Both of those premium configurations include the M5 Max chip with an 18-core CPU and 40-core GPU, $150 worth of nano-texture glass, 128GB of memory that adds an extra $2,000, and 16TB of storage which is the real budget breaker here thanks to the ongoing memory shortage.
Maximizing the configuration of the previous 16-inch version of the MacBook Pro topped out at $10,149, according to MacRumorsbut today’s $14,549 price is a result of the 16TB storage option that Apple now offers which adds an extra $7,000 to the new MacBook Pro’s price. If you only upgrade the new 16-inch model to 8TB of storage, a $3,000 option, the fully specced price is $10,549, or $400 more expensive than its predecessor.
