Anthropic has started in-country inference facility for its AI model Claude in India. According to the company, now Claude requests of organizations present in India can be processed through the local endpoint of India. This feature is especially important for those companies and institutions that have to comply with rules related to data residency and data sovereignty.
The company said on October 5 that its models including Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5 are now available in India with local reference. This facility was initially announced in August. It can be used through the Amazon Bedrock platform of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Why important for regulated companies?
According to Anthropic, there are many financial institutions, government organizations and large enterprises in India where data needs to be kept within the country’s borders before using AI. Local inference can help these organizations process sensitive workloads through Claude.
Managing Director of Anthropic India, Irina Ghose, said that customers in the regulated sector want to use Claude for their important tasks and now their requests can be processed within the country. Cloud deployment through Amazon Bedrock also provides features like audit trails and access controls, which are essential for enterprise risk and compliance teams.
CRED did the test
According to the company, early customers including CRED tested the local Claude Inference in India during a private preview. Some customers cited better latency, performance and resilience as its benefits, while others emphasized the regulatory benefits of keeping the data in India.
TCS and Mahindra Group have also described this feature as important in the context of data residency and governance requirements.
Use of Claude is increasing in India
India is among the fastest growing markets for Anthropic. The company opened its first India office in Bengaluru in February 2026. Since then the company has expanded its team in the country.
According to Anthropic, Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank and NPCI are using Claude for purposes like engineering and employee productivity. TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, LTIMindtree and LTTS are also involving Claude in their client delivery work.
Apart from this, digital businesses like CRED, Razorpay, Swiggy, Zomato, InVideo and Freshworks are also using Claude in their product and engineering workflows. The company says that in view of the increasing demand for Claude in India, local influence is an important part of its enterprise strategy.
