Most Sold Sedans in August 2026: The sedan segment of the Indian car market has registered good growth last month. A total of 32,913 units were sold in August 2026, which is 15.7 percent more than 28,451 units in August 2025 last year. This figure indicates continuous increase in demand in the sedan segment. Maruti Suzuki Dezire once again maintained its dominance in the market and achieved almost 56 percent share alone.

Hyundai and Honda cars also showed good growth, while some premium models saw a decline. Overall the segment is on a positive trend, with demand for entry-level sedans remaining the strongest. These figures are a relief for the automobile industry. Especially when amidst the discussion about petrol-diesel prices and electric vehicles, traditional sedans are maintaining their place. Let’s take a look at the model-wise sales report of the segment.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Dezire retained the top position with sales of 18,418 units in August 2026. Its sales in the same month last year were 16,509 units, which means a solid increase of 11.6 percent. The popularity of Desire remains due to its affordable price, good mileage and space. This model remains the first choice among middle-class families. The company’s strong service network and attractive finance schemes have also helped in increasing sales. This performance of Dezire is proving to be the backbone of the sedan segment.

Its ex-showroom price starts from around ₹ 6.31 lakh in Delhi. The design includes progressive styling, LED Crystal Vision headlamps, piano-black grille and 15-inch alloy wheels. The interior is a spacious dual-tone cabin, which gets a 9-inch touchscreen, digital cluster and comfortable rear seats. Features include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, sunroof, 360° camera and auto climate control (higher variants). Safety features include 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, standard 6 airbags, ESP, hill hold and ISOFIX. The 1.2-litre Z-Series 3-cylinder petrol engine (80 bhp, 112 Nm) comes with 5MT/AMT. Mileage is 24.79-25.71 kmpl in petrol and up to 33.73 km/kg in CNG.

Hyundai Aura

Hyundai Aura performed brilliantly at second position. 6,685 units were sold in August 2026, whereas last year there were 5,336 units. That means there has been a strong growth of 25.3 percent. Aura has further strengthened its hold in the entry-level sedan market. Its features, safety and stylish looks attracted young buyers. Hyundai’s marketing and dealer network also contributed to sales. This car is being liked the most after Dezire.

Honda Amaze

Honda Amaze has registered a tremendous jump at the third position. 3,512 units were sold in August 2026, whereas last year there were only 1,753 units. That means there has been more than double increase of 100.3 percent. The new version and better features of Amaze have attracted the buyers. Honda’s reliability and mileage image has also played an important role in increasing sales. This growth was most impressive in the sedan segment.

Volkswagen Virtus

There has been a decline in the sales of Volkswagen Virtus at number four. 1,301 units have been sold in August 2026, whereas 1,674 units were sold last year. That means there has been a decrease of 22.3 percent. Sales were affected due to increased competition and price sensitivity in the premium sedan segment. Still, Virtus is known for its build quality and driving experience. The company sees a need to rework its marketing and pricing strategy.

Skoda Slavia

Skoda Slavia is in fifth place and its demand has decreased. 897 units have been sold in August 2026, last year there were 1,008 units. That means there has been a decline of 11 percent. Slavia is known for premium features and space, but demand has been low this month. There is a need to increase its pricing and awareness compared to the competition. Still, this model continues to maintain its presence in its segment.

Apart from the top-5 cars of the segment mentioned above, last month Tata Tigger registered a growth of 7.1 percent with sales of 862 units. Hyundai Verna sales stood at 529 units, which is 31.4 percent less than last year. Honda City has shown a growth of 17.6 percent by selling 514 units. Toyota Camry has achieved a growth of 23.4 percent with sales of 195 units. These figures show that mid and premium sedans have mixed trends, while entry-level models dominate the market. Overall the sedan segment looked much better in August 2026.
