BMW has launched the new facelift version of its flagship luxury sedan range in India. Prices for the new BMW 7 Series and all-electric i7 start at Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom). The special thing is that the company has also started local production of i7 at the Chennai plant, making India the only country in the world apart from Germany where this electric flagship sedan is being manufactured. The range includes the petrol-powered 740 M Sport, i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport and the performance-focused i7 M70 xDrive.

Both the entry-level variants are available for Rs 1.95 crore, while the price of the top-spec i7 M70 goes up to Rs 2.65 crore. Delivery will start from October 2026. Actor Ranveer Singh was also present at the launch event. This update has brought major changes in design, technology, powertrain and rear-seat luxury. In the ultra-luxury segment, it will give direct competition to competitors like Mercedes S-Class.

design details

BMW has adopted the latest luxury-class language in design. The illuminated kidney grille (Iconic Glow) at the front is now in a more squared shape and comes with horizontal slats. The split LED headlights have slim DRLs extended upwards, while the main headlight units are located below, near the air intakes. The bumper has been redesigned, with flush door handles and slimmer rear taillights that extend all the way to the boot lid. The M70 gets special details like black exterior accents, smoke-black crystal headlights, 21-inch M aerodynamic wheels and a rear diffuser.

Cabin and Comfort

The biggest change on the interior is the panoramic iDrive system inspired by the Neue Klasse. In place of the traditional instrument cluster, there’s a full-width Panoramic Vision Display at the base of the windscreen, along with a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and, for the first time, a 14.6-inch passenger screen that auto-darkens when the driver is looking at it. BMW Operating System

There is a four-spoke steering wheel, redesigned center console and cylindrical drive selector. There is a 31.3-inch 8K theater screen in the rear, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system (with Dolby Atmos), executive lounge seats (heating, ventilation, massage, recline up to 43 degrees, powered ottoman and boss mode). Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof with over 40 LEDs, ambient lighting and radar-based automatic doors (soft close) add to the luxury.

Features and safety

Features include four-zone climate control, powered seats, connected car technology and 3D head-up display. For safety, Level 2 AIDS is standard, which includes Driving Assistant Plus (Active Cruise Control Stop and Go, Steering and Lane Control, Blind Spot Monitoring), Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Parking and Reversing Assistant.

Powertrain and performance

The 740 M Sport is equipped with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine (48V mild hybrid), which produces 400 hp and 540 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h takes 5.4 seconds and top speed is 250 km/h. The i7 eDrive50 produces 455 hp and 660 Nm from the dual motor, with a 112.5 kWh battery delivering 728 km WLTP range (125 km more than the old one).

0-100 takes 5.5 seconds and top speed is 210 km/h. The i7 M70 produces 680 hp, 1,015 Nm in Sport mode and 1,100 Nm in Sport Boost/Launch Control. 0-100 is done in just 3.8 seconds. Top speed is 250 km/hr and range is 686 km. With a 250 kW DC fast charger, 10-80 percent charging is done in just 28 minutes.
