Bike-scooter riders should do these 5 things before winter startsZoom

Take care of your bike-scooter like this in winter.

With the onset of winter season, taking care of your bike or scooter becomes even more important. During cold days, falling temperatures reduce battery capacity, tire rubber becomes hard and the engine takes time to reach the correct temperature. If proper preparation is not done in time, problems like problem in starting, weakness of brakes or sudden failure may arise. Regular checkups and minor updates are very useful to keep the vehicle running smoothly in winter.

By making proper arrangements for battery, tyres, oil, brakes and parking, you can not only ensure your safety but can also avoid expensive repair expenses. Avoid leaving the vehicle out in the open overnight in the cold and do a few minutes of warm-up before leaving in the morning. These small steps will help your bike or scooter perform better throughout the season. Let us know in which ways a bike or scooter can be kept in good condition in winter.

Battery check and maintenance

Battery capacity can reduce by 30-40 percent in cold. Therefore, before winter, clean the battery terminals and get the voltage checked. If the battery is more than three years old, consider replacing it. If possible during overnight parking, remove the battery and keep it in a warm place or use a trickle charger. Starting in the morning will be easy with regular charging.

Tire pressure and condition

Air pressure drops rapidly in winter. Check tire pressure every week and maintain it as recommended by the manufacturer. If there is a cut or wear in the tyre, get it replaced immediately because the grip becomes weak in the cold. Tires with good traction prevent slipping in winter. Even if you have a tubeless tyre, be sure to check the sealant.

Engine Oil and Lubrication

Oil becomes thick in cold, so use right grade engine oil. Clean the chain regularly and apply lubricant so that friction remains less. Also check the gear oil in the scooter and the clutch cable in the bike. With proper lubrication, the engine heats up easily and the parts last longer.

Brake and Lighting System

Roads can be wet or slippery in winter, so brake pads and discs should be in good condition. Check brake fluid level. It is important to check whether headlights, taillights and indicators are working properly or not because it gets dark quickly in winter. Good lighting increases safety.

Parking and Safety Cover

Do not leave the bike in the open overnight. If there is no garage then use a good quality waterproof cover. Applying the cover provides protection from dust, dew and cold. Before leaving in the morning, warm-up the engine by running it at idle for 2-3 minutes. This habit increases the life of the engine and prevents sudden breakdown.
