2026 Tata Aeris Vs Maruti Dzire: Tata Motors has recently launched its new compact sedan Eris, which replaces the old Tigor and will compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Dezire. The starting price of Eris is just ₹5.29 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Dezire starts at ₹6.31 lakh. Both the cars are in the sub-4 meter segment.

They are available with petrol and factory-fitted CNG options and offer manual and AMT gearboxes. In terms of price, Eris is cheaper by about ₹ 1 lakh, it is also ahead in features, but Dzire is known for better mileage and resale value. Let us try to find out which of the two would be better to buy?

Design and dimensions

The length of both is 3995 mm and wheelbase is 2450 mm. The width of the Eris is 1684 mm, height is 1532 mm and ground clearance is 170 mm. The Dezire is wider (1735 mm) and slightly lower (1525 mm), ground clearance remains at 163 mm.

The Eris has a Tiago-like front, LED headlamp-DRL, diamond-cut alloys and connected tail-lamps. The design of Desire is clean and modern. Eris is ahead in boot space (petrol 419 litres, CNG has better space than twin-cylinder) and Dezire has 382 litres.

interior

Eris gets Openview dashboard, 10.25 inch touchscreen, 5 inch digital cluster, ventilated leatherette seats, rear AC vents and dual smartphone deck (wireless charging). 9 inch screen, auto climate control and sunroof (top variant) is available in Dezire. There is ample space in both, but the cabin of the Eris seems more feature-loaded.

Features

The Eris comes with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera (dashcam function), blind view monitor, connected car features, cruise control and a 65W Type-C charger. Sunroof, wireless charging, 360 camera and auto climate control are available in Dezire. Eris leads with segment-first features.

Safety

The Eris has 6 airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, hill hold and ISOFIX as standard on all variants. The Dzire is also strong with 6 airbags and a 5-star safety rating (BNCAP/GNCAP). Both are safe options.

Engine and Performance

Both come with 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. Eris gives 86 hp and 113 Nm, in CNG it gives 76 hp/97 Nm. Dezire produces 80-82 hp and 112 Nm, around 70 hp in CNG. Both come with 5-speed MT/AMT. Dezire is better in mileage.

Overall, Eris is better in terms of price, features and boot space, while Dzire looks stronger in mileage, network and resale. If budget and features are priority then choose Eris, for long running and reliability choose Desire.
