An interesting change has been seen in the Indian midsize SUV segment in August 2026. Nissan Tecton has overtaken Renault Duster in its sales in the same month. Both SUVs are built on the same platform, engine and assembly line, yet Tecton sold 491 units, beating Duster’s 406 units. This figure was disappointing for both the brands, as both recorded the lowest monthly sales since their launch.

Tecton had made a good start in July with 1,670 units, but saw a 71 percent decline in August. Duster sales have been continuously declining since its launch in March. Both models are struggling amid tough competition, limited dealer network and strong rivals like Creta, Seltos and Sierra. In such a situation, Tekton left Duster behind in terms of sales. Let’s take a look at the sales report.

Tekton beats Duster

Sales of Tecton start in July 2026. It became Nissan’s top model by selling 1,670 units in the first month. In August it fell to 491 units, a total of 2,161 units were sold. Duster was launched in March. It sold 1,402 units in March, 2,359 units in April, 1,267 units in May, 1,011 units in June, 512 units in July and 406 units in August. Tecton overtook Duster in July-August.

Nissan Tekton design and interior

The design of Tecton is inspired by Nissan Patrol. At the front, full-width C-shaped LED DRL, slim headlamps, chrome grille and boxy stance make it different from the Duster. At the rear, there are connected C-shaped tail lamps and silver accents. Talking about dimensions, its length is about 4,349 mm, wheelbase is 2,657 mm and ground clearance is 212 mm.

The interiors have a rose gold and burgundy dual-tone theme. A 10.1-inch touchscreen (Google built-in), 10.25-inch digital cluster, panoramic sunroof, ventilated powered front seats, wireless charger, dual-zone AC and powered tailgate are available. Boot space is 518 liters (up to parcel shelf) or 700 liters (up to roof).

Features and safety

Features include ambient lighting, keyless entry and driving modes. Safety features include 6 airbags as standard, Level-2 ADAS (15-17 functions in top variants), 360-degree camera, ESC, TPMS, hill hold and all-wheel disc brakes. It is 5-star Bharat NCAP rated.

Engine and Performance

It can be bought with two engine options – 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (100 PS, 166 Nm, 6-speed MT, 19.4 kmpl) and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol (163 PS, 280 Nm, MT or 6-speed DCT, 17.8-18.5 kmpl). In terms of performance, the 1.3-litre engine completes 0-100 kmph in around 9.5 seconds. Prices range from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.59 lakh (ex-showroom). It is clear from the initial success of Tecton and the decline in August that it is not easy to survive in the midsize segment.
