Mahindra’s iconic Thar family is now available in two different variants. The recently launched Thar OG (3-door facelift) and the already existing Thar Roxx (5-door) both carry forward the off-roading legacy but cater to different needs. Ex-showroom prices for the Thar OG start at ₹10.32 lakh and go up to ₹18.99 lakh, while the prices for the Thar Roxx start at ₹12.52 lakh and go up to ₹23.52 lakh.
The Thar OG is built for the true adventure lover with its classic 3-door look and affordable entry point. Thar Roxx is a better choice for both city and long journeys with more space, family friendliness and premium features. Both have strong engines, 4WD options and rugged character, but there is a big difference in size, features and practicality. The right choice depends on your need. Come, let us know about their design and engine performance.
Design and interior
In terms of design, the Thar OG retains the classic Thar look with the traditional 3-door body, updated grille, new bumper and LED lighting. The Thar Roxx sports a long 5-door body, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRL, larger alloy wheels and more road presence. Roxx looks more modern and like a family SUV.
The interior is OG 4-seater, with two separate seats at the rear and the cabin is more utilitarian and rugged. The Roxx offers more space with 5-seater bench seating, soft-touch materials, dual-tone theme and superior build quality. Rear seat and boot space is quite generous in the Roxx.
Features and safety
Roxx is ahead in features. It has panoramic sunroof, 10.25 inch dual screen, ventilated seats, Harman Kardon sound system, wireless charger and more connectivity. The OG also has a 10.25-inch touchscreen and updated features, but premium features are limited.
Safety is stronger in both. The Roxx comes with 6 airbags as standard, level-2 ADAS, 360-degree camera and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. In the OG facelift also, 6 airbags, ESP and better safety kit have been added on higher variants.
Engine and Performance
Both have 1.5 liter diesel (approximately 117-119 PS), 2.2 liter diesel (150-172 PS) and 2.0 liter turbo petrol (162-177 PS) options. Both manual-automatic and RWD-4WD are available. The Roxx offers slightly more power tune and better highway cruising, while the OG has a more agile and pure feel in off-roading.
Overall, Thar OG is better for pure off-roading and budget. Thar Roxx is the right choice for family, space and modern features.
