From November 1, the facility to show the name of the person calling may become mandatory for all mobile customers. Under this system, when a call is received on the phone, not only the mobile number but also the name of the caller will be visible. The Department of Telecommunications has changed the rules related to caller identification. According to the order issued on October 13, the new rule will come into effect from November 1, 2026. Let us tell you all the details related to this.
Despite the name being visible, people have to beware of spam calls and online fraud.
Earlier, when someone called from an unknown number, people would often pick up the phone. It seemed that maybe there was something important. But many times these were spam or fraudulent calls. Now the government has made a new rule by which the name of the caller will appear on the screen when a call is received. From November 1, the facility to show the name of the person calling will be mandatory for all mobile customers. That is, under this new rule, when a call is received on the phone, not only the mobile number but also the name of the caller will be visible. The Department of Telecommunications has changed the rules related to caller identification.
According to the order issued on October 13, the new rule will come into effect from November 1, 2026. Under the new rule, along with the phone number of the caller, his name recorded in the subscriber record will also be included in the identity information. This order has been issued for all telecom companies.
How will this facility work?
When a call comes, not only the number but also the name of the person or company calling will be visible on the phone screen. With this you will be able to decide for yourself whether to answer the phone or not. Especially for elderly and less educated people who often answer unknown calls immediately, this can prove to be very beneficial for them.
On which networks will you get the benefit?
According to CNBC report, this service will not be available on 2G and 3G networks. This means that people who have old network will not be able to get this facility right now. Only users with 4G and above networks will get its full benefit.
Caution is still necessary
While visibility of names will help in identifying spam and scam calls, it does not mean that every call with a name is safe. Fraudsters may also sometimes call by changing their names or creating fake identities. Therefore, never give bank account details, OTP, Aadhar number or any personal information on unknown calls. If necessary, give information only by calling back yourself or by talking to the official number. This new rule will definitely give some relief to the common people. Now there will be no need to pick up the phone indiscriminately when receiving an unknown call. But it is always important to be cautious.
