2026 Renault Duster vs Maruti Grand Vitara: The demand for strong hybrid cars is increasing rapidly in the compact SUV segment of the Indian market. The recently launched 2026 Renault Duster Hybrid and the long-available Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara are two big contenders in this segment. Duster Hybrid is priced at ₹ 16.99 lakh in Evolution variant, ₹ 18.99 lakh in Techno and ₹ 19.49 lakh in Top Emotion (ex-showroom, introductory).

Whereas the price of Maruti Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid starts from Delta+ to Alpha+ Opt and ranges between approximately ₹ 16.68 lakh to ₹ 19.77 lakh (ex-showroom). Both the cars come with self-charging hybrid technology and claim better mileage in city traffic. Let us compare the design, interior, features, safety, engine and mileage of both.

Design and interior

The look of Duster Hybrid is more adventurous and rugged. Its height, wheelbase and ground clearance (about 212 mm) are better than the Grand Vitara. 18-inch alloy wheels and illuminated grille give it a distinct identity. Inside you get Desert Beige or Dune Brown leatherette upholstery. The design of Grand Vitara looks more premium and balanced. Its cabin space is good but the boot space is less in Hybrid (about 255-265 litres), whereas it is better in Duster (about 430 litres).

Features and safety

Duster Hybrid has features like 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital cluster, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate and wireless charger. In safety, 6 airbags, rear parking sensor and camera are standard. Grand Vitara gets 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen, head-up display, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats and wireless connectivity. In terms of safety, 6 airbags, ESP, hill hold assist etc. are also available. Grand Vitara has got better ratings in some reports.

Engine and Mileage

The 1.8-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine of the Duster Hybrid produces a total of 160 PS power and 208 Nm torque along with two electric motors. ARAI mileage claimed is 29 km/l. The 0-100 km/h time of around 9.6 seconds is also best in the segment. The Grand Vitara’s 1.5-litre 3-cylinder strong hybrid system produces a total of 116 PS of power and ARAI mileage of 27.97 km/litre. Duster is ahead in power and claimed mileage, while Grand Vitara is strong in Japanese reliability and service network.

Who to buy: Overall, if you want power, space and good mileage then Duster Hybrid is an attractive option. If you want a balance of proven reliability and features, then Grand Vitara may prove to be better. Before buying both the cars, do a test drive and choose one according to your needs and budget.
