Huawei has revealed its next big move amid US sanctions on Nvidia’s advanced AI chips. The company is preparing to launch two new AI semiconductors in 2027. The special thing is that instead of just increasing the power of the chip, Huawei is also working on creating large computing systems by connecting thousands and millions of AI processors. After all, how special will the new chips be and why may the challenge increase for Nvidia? Know…
Huawei has planned to compete with Nvidia.
China’s leading tech company Huawei Technologies will launch two new artificial intelligence semiconductors. The company’s rotating chairman David Wang has given this information. These chips are part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its AI computing business and challenge American chip maker Nvidia. Huawei is planning to launch the 960DT chip in the first quarter of 2027 and the Ascend 960PR in the third quarter.
Due to US export restrictions, China is getting limited access to Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips. In such a situation, Huawei is moving forward by developing domestic options. The company is also working on the technology of connecting chips on a large scale, so that they can work like a large computing system. According to the report of news agency Reuters, this step will further intensify the AI hardware competition between China and America.
New chips and launch timeline
Huawei will introduce the Ascend 960DT in the first quarter of 2027 and the Ascend 960PR in the third quarter. Wang gave this information at a company event in Shanghai. These chips will play an important role in increasing the AI capability of the company.
Unified Bus Technology and Large Systems
The company is focusing on adding a large number of AI chips. The processing power of a single chip is not enough for most advanced AI programs. Wang said that unified bus technology will be an important link in the next generation of large AI systems. This will help the chips to share information and work together efficiently. Huawei has developed 11 semiconductors based on this technology. The company’s largest linked systems can support up to one million AI processors, called superclusters.
Shipment and customer base
Huawei has deployed more than a thousand supernodes to more than 370 customers. Supernode is a single working system by connecting multiple AI chips together. Wang did not provide details of the number of chips in the supernode, the names of customers or the shipment.
US sanctions and China’s strategy
America and China are racing to develop AI chips, data centers and software. Washington has limited China’s access to advanced chips and semiconductor equipment by imposing export controls. Due to this, Chinese companies have had to emphasize on creating domestic alternatives. The ability to combine chips has become necessary because advanced foreign chips are not easily available.
developer ecosystem
US sanctions have made Huawei a major AI chip supplier in China. Still, Nvidia’s strong developer base remains a challenge. According to Wang, Huawei has 5,270 monthly active developers in its AI chip ecosystem. This is necessary to make the hardware easy to use. Let us tell you that this news is based on the report of Reuters.
