The scope of earning for creators making videos on YouTube has become bigger. Now there is no need to depend only on the income from video views and advertisements. Big e-commerce platforms like Amazon, AJIO, Meesho, Snapdeal and Tata CLiQ have joined the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program. That means creators will be able to tag the products of these platforms in their videos or shorts and if the viewer makes a purchase from the same link, the creator can get commission.
Consider it as if a creator is reviewing a mobile or telling about a dress, cosmetic, gadget or home product. Now there will be no need to send the viewer to another website just by telling the name of the product. He can tag that product in the video itself. If the viewer clicks on the link and makes a purchase, that sale paves the way for the creator to earn a commission. This means that video is no longer just content, it can also act as a digital shop.
It started in 2024
YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program was started in India in 2024 and now its shopping catalog is being expanded. After the addition of names like Amazon, AJIO and Meesho, creators will have a wide range of products. With this, especially fashion, beauty, electronics, home and lifestyle content creators can get more opportunities to link their videos to earning. Already, platforms like Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa, Purplle, Shopsy and Tira are also included in this catalogue.
Opportunity to tag in old videos also
The special thing about this program is that creators cannot add products only in new videos. Eligible creators can also tag products in their older videos. There is also a facility to promote products in Shorts and Livestream. Eligible creators with more than 500 subscribers can sign up for this program. More than 50 percent of eligible creators in India have already joined the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program and products have been tagged in more than 19 million videos.
Ongoing testing of dynamic brand
Along with this, YouTube is also testing Dynamic Brand Segments. Through this, creators will be able to add brand segments to 20 long-form videos simultaneously. These segments can be targeted according to location and in-built shelves with call-to-action buttons can also be installed in the video. In simple language, YouTube is gradually becoming a platform where creators will make videos, show products and will also be able to earn money on sales from the same content.
