India are off the mark on Day 5 of the Asian Games, with Satnam Singh and Salman Khan securing the country’s first medal of the day in rowing.
The Indian pair claimed bronze in the men’s double sculls, finishing the race in 6:13.25. They were just 2.76 seconds behind Uzbekistan’s Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin, who took silver, while China’s Yi Xudi and Nie Yide crossed the line first.
Satnam and Salman were firmly in medal contention throughout the opening stages. They held second place at the 500m, 1000m and 1500m marks, trailing the Chinese combination by roughly half a second.
However, the Indians could not match the pace of their rivals in the final stretch and slipped to third, although they held on comfortably enough to secure the bronze medal.
