South African pacer Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Australia.

Ngidi experienced discomfort during a domestic first class game and following scans, it was found that he had picked up a right hamstring injury.

The 29-year-old, whose participation in the Test series is now under doubt, will undergo a period of rehabilitation before the team management takes a call on his return date.

The Proteas have named young pacer Nqobani Mokoena as Ngidi’s replacement. Mokoena made his international debut in the recent series against Zimbabwe, where he picked one wicket in two matches.
