Winter Car Care Tips: Winters are starting and with the falling temperatures, there is a need to increase the care of the car a bit. In cold, the battery weakens, tire pressure decreases, engine oil thickens and ice or fog starts accumulating on the windshield. If proper maintenance is not done in time, problems like sudden vehicle not starting, brake failure or slipping on the road may arise.

To keep the vehicle safe and running smoothly in winter, paying attention to some small things proves to be very beneficial. Regular checkup and a little vigilance not only saves repair costs but also keeps the journey safe. By adopting the five easy tips given below, you can completely prepare your car for winter.

Be sure to get the battery checked

Battery capacity reduces significantly in cold. If the battery is at least three years old, then get it charged and its terminals cleaned before winter. Get loose or rusted connections repaired. If necessary, get a new battery installed so that there is no problem in starting the vehicle in the morning.

Check tire pressure and condition

Air pressure reduces in cold. Check tire pressure every two weeks and keep it at the correct level. Also check the depth of the trade. If the tires are very worn, get them replaced. In snowy areas, it is better to use snow tires or good quality all-season tires.

Check coolant and antifreeze levels

Coolant mixed with antifreeze is necessary to protect the engine from freezing in winter. Check the level of radiator and reserve tank. If there is old coolant, get it replaced. Blending the right ratio prevents the engine from freezing and also prevents the problem of overheating.

Change wiper blades and washer fluid

Old and hard wiper blades are not able to clean glass in cold weather. Get new blades installed. Add antifreeze liquid to the washer fluid to prevent it from freezing. Keeping the glass clean regularly ensures clear visibility while driving.

Check Engine Oil and Heater System

Use right grade oil for winter which remains thin in cold. Get the heater and defroster system checked so that fog does not accumulate on the glass. Keep brake lights and headlights also clean. With the help of these small tips, you can keep your car in better condition even in winter.
