The SUV segment dominates the Indian auto market. Customers are now demanding not just style and space, but also advanced features, safety, power and electric/hybrid technology. With this changing trend, many brands are going to launch their new and powerful SUVs. Some of these will come in the budget-friendly mid-size segment, while some will enter the luxury and ultra-premium categories.
These vehicles like Hyundai Bayon, JSW Combat, Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, Audi Q9 and Range Rover Electric will attract different categories of buyers in terms of design, interior, powertrain and performance. Let us know about the details revealed so far.
Hyundai Bayon
It is scheduled to be launched on 26 October 2026 and is expected to be priced between ₹ 9.5-17 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be positioned between Venue and Creta. The design has a bold front grille, LED DRL and a muscular look. The interior has dual 12.3-inch screens, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats and Bose sound system.
Features include Generative AI voice assistant, OTA updates and Level-2 ADAS. In safety, 6 airbags and 35+ features are standard. The powertrain comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine (115 PS, 144 Nm) mated to a 6-speed manual or IVT automatic, which offers adequate performance for city and highway driving.
JSW Combat
JSW Motors’ first SUV Combat will debut in December 2026. The probable price is said to be around ₹40-50 lakh. It is a rugged off-road style SUV based on Chery Jetour T2, which has a boxy design, high ground clearance and adventurous look. The interiors are expected to be premium and feature-loaded. Features may include 540-degree camera, Level-2 ADAS and modern infotainment system.
In safety, 6 airbags and advanced assistance features will be available. The powertrain is plug-in hybrid. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol + electric motors will deliver strong performance with a total of 360 PS and 610 Nm torque, 90 km electric range and 1,100 km total range.
Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric
It will be launched in India on 4 November 2026 and its expected price is expected to be between ₹ 80-90 lakh. This is a locally assembled electric SUV. The design has elegant and modern look, LED lighting and sporty profile. MBUX system, AI assistant, physical controls and luxury materials are used in the interior.
Features include advanced connectivity and driver assistance systems. Mercedes’ high-end standards will be available in safety. The powertrain offers great performance with a 94 kWh battery, dual-motor AWD setup (about 490 hp, 800 Nm), 0-100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds and WLTP range of up to 715 km.
