Tata Motors has launched its new compact sedan Tata Aeris in India on 25 September 2026. This model will replace the old Tigor and has come with new features in the entry level segment. Its ex-showroom price starts from just Rs 5.29 lakh and the top variant goes up to Rs 9.19 lakh. CNG option is available from Rs 6.29 lakh. Booking has started immediately and deliveries will start from October 11.

Aeris has 1.2 liter petrol and CNG engines. Both 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes are available. The design is completely new, which is inspired by Tiago. The interior is also upgraded, which includes dual digital screens, 360 degree camera and better safety features. It will compete directly with models like Maruti Dezire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze. Let us know about its design, engine and performance details.

design details

The design of Tata Eris is completely modern and attractive. This is a sub-4 meter segment sedan which completely changes the old look of Tigor. LED headlamps are provided with a slim grille at the front, which is very similar to the new Tiago. The full-width DRL strip gives a more premium look to the car. The side profile shows clean lines and U-shaped alloy wheels. There is a setup of connected LED tail lamp in the rear, in which Tata logo is placed in the middle.

Boot space is 419 liters which is quite good in this segment. Twin-cylinder technology has been used in the CNG variant, due to which boot space is saved to a great extent. Color options include Dandeli Drizzle, Daytona Grey, Dune Glow, Pure Grey, Nitro Crimson and Pristine White. Overall, the design is going to be liked by both office-going and family buyers.

Cabin and Comfort

The interior has also been significantly improved. The cabin comes in a dual-tone theme of beige and gray which gives a premium feel. There is a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system and fully digital instrument cluster on the dashboard. Rotary dial gear selector is provided in AMT variants. The steering wheel is of two-spoke design with controls on it.

Special attention has been paid to the rear seat package. Rear AC vents, armrest and charging ports are available. Features like ventilated front seats, wireless charging pad, Type-C USB ports and automatic climate control are available in the top variants. Overall the cabin is spacious and comfortable.

Features and safety

Eris is far ahead in the feature list. 360 degree camera system comes with multi-view option. There is also a digital DVR, which records footage using the car’s cameras. Other features include push-button start, auto-folding ORVMs, cruise control, keyless entry and connected car technology. Wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay support is also available. All these features are quite upgraded compared to Tigor and make it competitive in the segment.

Tata has left no stone unturned in the matter of safety. 6 airbags are standard across all variants. ABA with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, rear parking sensors, Isofix child seat mounts and hill hold assist are available. The safety record of Tata cars has been good, hence better crash ratings are expected from Eris.

Engine and Mileage

Eris has a 1.2 liter (1199 cc) three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. It produces around 85-86 BHP power and 113 Newton meter torque. In CNG mode, power is around 74-75 bhp and torque is 96 Newton meters. Both engine options are available with 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes. This is the same engine which is also used in Tiago.

Official mileage figures were not released in detail at the time of launch but good fuel efficiency is expected due to the twin-cylinder CNG setup and light weight. The petrol variant is likely to get balanced mileage in the city and on the highway, while the running cost in CNG will be quite low.
