Renault India has released the official teaser for the strong-hybrid version of its popular SUV Duster. The company will announce its prices on 17 October 2026. This launch is special because the new generation Duster does not have the option of diesel engine, whereas the success of the old Duster was largely dependent on diesel. The teaser has a clear message: ‘Dear Diesel, thank you for the ride, we will take it from here.’ That means the company is calling hybrid an alternative to diesel.

E-Tech strong-hybrid technology is coming to India for the first time. This will be the third powertrain option after the 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol. There is good demand from the urban market and the stock for 2026 has already been booked. Through this launch, Renault is trying to arrest the decline in sales and strengthen its presence in the mid-size SUV segment. Along with the announcement of prices, official mileage and other details are also expected to be revealed.

Launch date and teaser

Renault India has confirmed that the prices of Duster Hybrid will be announced on 17 October 2026. ‘Dear Diesel, thank you for the ride, we will take it from here’ is written in the teaser. It marks the next chapter for the hybrid while acknowledging the diesel legacy of the old Duster. The new Duster was launched in March 2026, with only petrol options. The wait for the hybrid is ending in the festive season.

Powertrain and specifications

Duster Hybrid is equipped with Renault’s E-Tech strong-hybrid technology. It is powered by a 1,789 cc (approximately 1.8-litre) naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors. One is a generator/starter motor of about 20 hp and the other is a traction motor of about 49 hp, which provides power to the wheels. The battery pack is of 1.4 kWh.

Combined output is said to be around 160 hp (158-162 bhp in some reports) and 172 Nm torque. Transmission is a multi-mode automatic or 8-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). This system does not require external charging. Energy is recovered through regenerative braking.

Performance and efficiency claims

Renault claims that in urban conditions up to 80 percent of driving can be done in completely electric mode. With this, fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 40 percent compared to a pure petrol car. The company has stated the combined range to be around 1,000 km. Official ARAI mileage figures will be revealed on October 17. This is going to be the most efficient powertrain in the Duster range.

Price and Variants

The current price of petrol Duster starts from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.69 lakh (ex-showroom). A premium is expected on the hybrid. The estimated price is around Rs 19-23 lakh (ex-showroom), but the official price will be known only on 17th October. The hybrid is likely to be available in mid and top variants.

Demand and Bookings

According to Francisco Hidalgo (Vice President, Renault India), the demand for hybrids remained very strong. The entire allocation for 2026 has already been sold. 39 percent of bookings in metro markets came for hybrid. Work is going on to increase production. New bookings are expected to open after the price announcement. Delivery may start around Diwali.

sales report

Sales of the new Duster stood at 1,402 units in March 2026 and 2,359 units in April. After that there was a continuous decline for four months. 1,267 units were sold in May, 1,011 units in June, 512 units in July and 402 units in August. A total of 6,953 units have been sold from March to August. Hybrid option can help in getting sales back on track.

Features and other details

The features of the existing Duster are expected to be available in hybrid variants. It has panoramic sunroof, leatherette seats, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment (Google built-in), digital driver display, ventilated front seats and Level-2 ADAS safety features. Ground clearance and boot space are likely to remain the same as the petrol model. This will be a self-charging strong hybrid SUV, in which a multi-mode system with 15 operating modes has been mentioned.
