West Indies rested Shai Hope for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh and gave Kevin Wikham his maiden call-up on Tuesday.
“Shai Hope, the white-ball captain, is being rested for the series after an extended run across all three formats. Hope,” the CWI said in a release.
“With the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier scheduled for February next year, CWI is managing his workload and wellness through the period in the lead up to the Qualifier,” the release further added.
Alzarri Joseph will also miss out on the Test series as part of the workload management, following a routine assessment and specialist consultation.
“With Joseph’s agreement, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has taken the decision to manage his workload, seeking to avert the risk of injury associated with the increased physical demands of red-ball cricket.”
Keemo Paul has been added to the squad in place of him.
The series starts on October 28 in Mirpur before travelling to Sylhet for the second Test.
