Hyundai Motor India has officially confirmed the powertrain of its upcoming compact SUV Hyundai Bayon. The company has clarified that this model will be launched in India only with 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Diesel or turbo-petrol options have not been announced yet. Bayon is scheduled to debut in India on 26 October 2026, when prices are also expected to be announced.

Booking is currently open online and at the dealership for Rs 11,000. Delivery is going to start during the festive season. This SUV will be positioned between Venue and Creta. It will have modern features like generative AI voice assistant, connected car technology and digital cockpit, which make it different in the segment. Let us know about the details revealed.

Engine and Transmission Details

Bayon will be powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated MPi petrol engine. It produces 115 PS power and 144 Nm torque. The same engine is also used in Hyundai Creta. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox and Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) i.e. CVT automatic. There will be no diesel powertrain at launch, so buyers wanting a diesel SUV will have to look at other options in the segment.

Technology and AI features

Hyundai Bayon is being positioned as an Intelligent Utility Vehicle (IUV). Its biggest feature is the generative AI-powered voice assistant. This will be Hyundai’s first such model in India. The system uses Perplexity’s intelligence and SoundHound AI’s voice technology.

It can understand conversation-like queries. It can provide information like weather, trip planning, hotel-restaurant search, shopping destination and sports updates. There are also more than 500 embedded voice commands that work without internet. These are available in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu.

Interior and connectivity

A digital cockpit with two curved 12.3-inch displays will be available in the cabin. One for instrument cluster and the other for infotainment. NVIDIA-accelerated Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) supports online navigation, split-screen, and shortcuts.

Hyundai Bluelink has more than 70 connected features, including remote functions, vehicle status, location services, navigation and smartphone-smartwatch connectivity. The interface supports 10 regional and two international languages. Over-the-air software updates will be available for up to 19 controllers, allowing many updates without visiting a dealership.

Launch, booking and positioning

The full variant lineup, price and other details are expected to be revealed on 26 October 2026. The estimated price range is said to be around Rs 9.79 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh. In the market it will compete with SUVs like Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza.
