According to data from Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), total sales of cars, vans, jeeps and pickups in the country in August 2026 stood at 15,558 units. This is 11 percent more than the same month last year, but 21 percent less than July 2026. Sales of passenger cars stood at 13,717 units, which has increased by 36.4 percent on an annual basis.
Passenger car sales reached 30,933 units in the first two months of the financial year (FY), which is about 80 percent more than the same period last year. Monthly sales have slowed down due to policy uncertainty and lack of clarity in the tax structure. If we talk about the Indian auto market, ever since the government has reduced the GST on cheap cars from 28 percent to 18 percent, there are huge sales going on here.
We sell so many cars in one day
If we look at the sales report, India’s auto market presents a completely different picture. Retail sales of passenger cars alone in India in September 2026 stood at more than 4.27 lakh units. If it is divided into days, on an average more than 14,000 new cars are sold every day. During the festive season this figure reaches 51,000 units a day. Including two-wheelers and commercial vehicles, more than 77,000 vehicles are sold in India every day.
That means Pakistan’s total automobile sales for the entire month is almost equal to or even less than India’s average passenger car sales in just one day. This difference clearly shows the market size, purchasing power, industrial base and strength of demand of both the countries.
Who has more sales in Pakistan?
Suzuki’s dominance continues in Pakistan. Suzuki Alto alone sold 5,339 units and became the top model, although it declined by 26 percent on a monthly basis. Toyota’s Corolla, Yaris and Cross together sold 3,079 units. Total sales of Honda Civic and City stood at 2,553 units. Suzuki was the overall biggest seller, while Indus Motors (Toyota) and Honda Atlas also maintained significant share.
The top five best selling cars of September 2026 in India were as follows-
- Maruti Baleno – 25,392 units
- Tata Nexon – 20,456 units
- Tata Punch – 20,333 units
- Maruti Suzuki – 19,282 units
- Maruti WagonR – 18,835 units
Maruti Suzuki’s market share in the Indian market was around 40 percent. Tata and Mahindra are also performing strongly. It is clear from the comparison of both the markets that India’s auto sector is many times ahead of Pakistan not only in volume but also in volatility and stability of demand.
